CINCINNATI - Three people were startled from their sleep when they heard a neighbor's tree fall about 7 a.m. Sunday. It wasn't until later that they realized the tree had fallen on their house.
"We heard the tree fall, but we didn't know it fell on the house until the fire department came banging on the door," said Alexis Smith, 20.
Smith said she lived with her mother and brother in a rented house in the 1100 block of Yale Ave., in Walnut Hills.
It was raining at the time, but Smith said she didn't think the tree had been hit by lightning.
The tree did so much damage to the roof and the porch they had to move out because the building inspector said the home is unsafe.
The property owner is putting them up in a hotel, Smith said.
