CINCINNATI -- Hundreds of Tri-State volunteers prepared meal kits Saturday to send to Hurricane Harvey survivors in Louisiana and Texas.

More than 400 people put together 150,000 meal kits containing high protein food, water, hygiene packets and blankets.

Larry Bergeron, executive director of A Child’s Hope International, said they put the call out for volunteers through their website and social media.

“We obviously want to help our fellow American citizens, and we responded through the work of volunteers,” Bergeron said.

Bill Wegman, a volunteer, said the event was a way he could help those affected by the hurricane.

“We talk about changing the world, and these people here are doing it one pack at a time, one person at a time,” Wegman said.

A Child’s Hope International will fill a 53-foot trailer with the prepared meals to send them to organizations helping people in Louisiana and Texas.

“We're never going to … see the people that this foods going to go to, who it's going to impact, but we know where it's going, we know how what it's going to and we know the purpose of it,” Wegman said.

The supplies are expected to head south early next week.
