CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati Police and SWAT officers backed down after a standoff involving a 79-year-old woman waving a small pistol from the front porch of her home on Crest Circle around 7:30 a.m. Friday in Mount Lookout.

The woman's younger sister was trying to get her to go to the hospital for a check-up, according to CPD Lt. Steve Saunders. She refused and barricaded herself inside her home with the .38-caliber handgun.

Saunders said she didn't necessarily threaten officers on the scene, but they were concerned enough that they backed off and called in the SWAT team to negotiate with her.

"We're not going to force her to go to the hospital if she didn't want to," Saunders said.

No charges were pressed against the woman, who police did not identify to WCPO.
