PTA president indicted for theft of local school organization's funds

CINCINNATI – A Hamilton County grand jury indicted a former PTA president on two counts for stealing a total of $2,000 from the organization there to help a local school.

Cindy Walton was charged with one count of theft and a county of unauthorized use of property from the Pleasant Run Middle School’s Parent Teacher Association, according to court documents.

The indictment was handed down on Friday. The Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office issued a warrant on the same day. Walton was processed at the Hamilton County Justice Center on Wednesday.

Walton was the PTA president within the Northwest Local School District last spring when investigators say the theft of funds took place on April 26, 2013.

The PTA is not part of the school district, Pauletta Crowley, the Assistant Director of Community & Student Services for the district said.

The district was able to confirm Walton was relieved of her office within the PTA organization months ago.

The middle school PTA was unable to be reached for comment.
