Store clerk shoots, kills man wearing motorcycle helmet inside Pleasant Ridge grocery store

CINCINNATI - A man was shot to death by a store clerk Sunday evening inside a grocery store in Pleasant Ridge.

The shooting took place at about 8:45 p.m. at LM&N Unlimited Supermarket located at 5640 Montgomery Road, according to Cincinnati police.

9 On Your Side reporter Amy Wadas confirmed that 22-year-old Omar Magdy Abouelalla rode a motorcycle to the store, went inside wearing a blue helmet and was later shot by the clerk. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Hamilton County coroner released a preliminary report Monday stating that Abouelalla died as a result of a gunshot wound to the chest.

Investigators said Abouelalla's visor was raised while he was in the store.

It's unclear why the clerk fired at Abouelalla but police are treating the situation as as a robbery investigation at this time, Wadas was told by police. Investigators did not indicate whether or not Abouelalla was armed.

The clerk, whose name was not released, was taken to police headquarters to be questioned.

Investigators are looking into whether the men knew one another prior to the shooting.

No one else was inside the store at the time of the shooting so there are no witnesses, police said, but investigators are in the process of reviewing security camera footage.

The investigation is ongoing.
