CINCINNATI -- A pedestrian was struck around 11:30 a.m. Thursday on the ramp from the Western Hills Viaduct to northbound I-75, police said.

A husband and wife had their car become disabled on the ramp, according to Lt. Steve Saunders of the Cincinnati Police Department. He said the husband was in front of the car checking the engine when another car struck the rear end of the car, injuring the man.

He was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in critical condition. No information was available on whether the man's wife was injured in the crash. The driver of the car that hit the disabled vehicle remained on scene and has been cooperating with police. The traffic unit is investigating the wreck.

Police closed the ramp while they investigated.
