UC student arrested after stabbing at The Drinkery in Over-the-Rhine

CINCINNATI -- A University of Cincinnati student was arrested Saturday after police say he stabbed another man at an Over-the-Rhine bar.

Authorities said Spencer Nelson, 22, stabbed 38-year-old Jason L. Shorten at The Drinkery in the 1100 block of Main Street.

Detective Pat Galligan said Shorten was an innocent bystander in the altercation. The detective said the bouncers at the bar were wrestling Nelson out the door when the fight spilled into the area near Shorten and he was injured in the ensuing brawl.

Police said Shorten had never met Nelson before the incident.

Nelson was charged with felonious aggravated assault. A judge set his bond at $10,000 during an arraignment Monday.

Earlier information from police stated that Shorten was involved in the fight, but Galligan told WCPO that preliminary information was incorrect.
