CINCINNATI -- A city parking enforcement officer died after a crash involving a city vehicle on Reading Road at Tennessee Avenue.
The crash happened at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
“I am sad to say that we lost a member of the city family today," said Cincinnati City Manager Milton Dohoney, Jr. "Mr. Tyrone Smith, a 26-year dedicated member of the city organization, died today while on duty. He was one of those employees who always stayed positive and even showed up to work a half hour early every day. But he was more than a public employee; he was a father, a brother and a friend. On behalf of the entire city government, I send my deepest sympathies to them all.”
The vehicle Smith drove was heading south on Reading Road when he side-swiped another car, and then a cement block and stopped on a cement island. Police on the scene believed the crash was the result of a medical emergency.
The Cincinnati Police Department has yet to release an official cause.
Reading Road was shut down during the initial investigation for a short time and then reopened.
