CINCINNATI – A local income tax preparer got 15 months in prison Tuesday for filing at least 92 false returns worth $350,458.
Mark Dicks, 48, of Cincinnati, also was sentenced to three years of supervised release and ordered to repay the full amount to the IRS. Dicks pleaded guilty on Feb. 25.
Dicks, who operated Brown and Garcia Tax Service and EZ Tax Service in Cincinnati, scammed the IRS between January 2009 and January 2010, the government said.
The majority of false income tax refunds were deposited onto prepaid debit cards. Dicks activated the cards and withdrew his funds before providing his clients with the remaining balance of the false income tax refunds.
