HEBRON, Ky. -- People are starting to make their way home -- to and from Florida and the Caribbean -- after Hurricane Irma, including a honeymooning couple from Bond Hill.

Family and friends welcomed Brian and Gormah Wilson back to CVG late Tuesday night after they were stranded at a St. Maarten resort when the Category 5 storm hit.

They said they were rescued from the Caribbean island on Sunday after spending four days in a shelter.

"I truly thank God for being here," Brian said. "We didn't think we were going to make it through through the experience. There was a lot of people working on our behalf to see us through a lot of changes that was made in the process to make sure we were safe."

The Hilsons tried to make it off the island before Irma struck, but it was too late and they couldn't find a flight back.

The hotel where they were staying put up steel doors to protect guests, and even then, the building was severely damaged. However, nobody was hurt at that hotel during the storm.

"There's really no place like home," Gormah said. "I was just elated, filled with joy to be back here with family."

Airports in Florida are resuming operations Wednesday, and a few flights are scheduled to leave Cincinnati for the Sunshine State.
