900 runners and walkers hit the road in the first Purple Stride 5K to raise money for pancreatic cancer at Lunken Field Saturday Morning.

This walk is hosted by the local Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (Pancan). They say pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest major cancers, and it gets the least amount of funding.

There is no early detection test for pancreatic cancer. Doctors say only about 10 percent of people with it survive more than five years.

The event raised over $75,000. All proceeds benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

9 News reporter Deb Silverman helped kick off the event.
