Ice in Alexandria, Ky.
CINCINNATI - From plastic bags to the engine in your vehicle you are surrounded by ways to stay safe on an icy day.
9 On Your Side is tracking the storm approaching for your Friday morning commute which looks to bring with it more ice than snow.
When it comes to driving, The Weather Channel suggests you leave three times more space than usual between you and the vehicle in front of you.
Utilize the 'low gears' in your vehicle which let the engine work to slow you down in poor driving conditions and if your wheels lock up on the ice take your foot off the brake.
Another suggestion is to put plastic bags over your windshield wipers overnight. When you leave in the morning slide off the bags and your wipers will be clear of any ice or snow.
As you step out of the house in the morning think about what is on your feet. Trade your dress shoes for boots or something with a good rubber bottom to help you find traction.
And if your door is stuck thanks to a case of ice, we've got some tips on how to get it open at http://www.wcpo.com/dpp/news/region_central_cincinnati/downtown/Tips-to-keep-your-icy-Friday-commute-safe.
