CINCINNATI -- All aboard the Cincinnati streetcar --- for a small fee.
The city of Cincinnati announced Wednesday the preliminary cost estimates for passengers to grab a ticket to ride the downtown streetcar.
The city said it expects tickets to cost $1.75 for a two-hour pass, and $3.50 for a 24-hour pass.
The streetcar’s first phase is a 3.6-mile looped route through downtown and Over-the-Rhine, with 18 stops.
It will run mainly along Vine Street, Elm Street, Race Street and Main Street. Tracks will also be laid on 12th Street and Central Parkway. The streetcar boasts popular destinations along its route such as Government Square, Fountain Square, the Contemporary Arts Center, the downtown Public Library, the Aronoff Center, Horseshoe Casino, the Gateway Quarter, Cincinnati's School for the Creative and Performing Arts, Music Hall and Washington Park.
Phase II of streetcar construction is scheduled to extend service from downtown to the Clifton area and will connect with University Plaza, the Short Vine entertainment district and Christ Hospital.
By comparison, it costs $1.75 to ride the Metro within the entire city of Cincinnati, transfers not included, and $2.65 to ride in Hamilton County or outside city limits (plus Rt. 23X). Costs increase to more than $3 outside Hamilton County.
