CINCINNATI - Just in time for the Memorial Day weekend, the Christian Moerlein Brewing Company is opening its new tap room in Over-the-Rhine.

The Cincinnati-based brewer will provide tours of the tap room at the new craft brewery located on Moore Street, as well as portions of the underground caverns that date back to the 1860s, -- not to mention beer tasting opportunities, as well.

The brewery is located at 1621 Moore St. and the Memorial Day tours will run from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday. The company will provided free shuttles from Fountain Square to the brewery during the holiday weekend.

Christian Moerlein is also looking to recruit some volunteers to man those tours. Volunteers will get training from local beer historians, a custom shirt, one case of Moerlein beer and a set of commemorative beer glasses.

Company officials said all volunteer guides must be at least 21 years old, and be able to attend a training session on May 20 or May 21. They must also be able to work at least two shifts over Taste of Cincinnati weekend.

Regular tours will start May 31 and will be open from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays, 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.
