CINCINNATI - The start of 2013 has been plagued by a series of new burglaries and robberies near the University of Cincinnati campus. Between Dec. 31, 2012 and Jan. 1, 2013 there were two burglaries and a robbery.
"I've noticed a lot of things happening. Some of my friends have gotten mugged, another one was chased up the street," said Jordan Butler, a UC student and Clifton resident.
Butler says many people, including himself, have been concerned about the increased crime in the area.
"I walk around with headphones in, but lately I've been taking one out so I can hear things going on around me," Butler said.
Police say they have a plan, however. The University of Cincinnati Police Department is teaming up with Cincinnati Police Department to install cameras around campus, provide extra lighting for walking areas and increase up foot patrols by 30 percent.
Officials hope the moves will put students like Butler at ease.
"I feel a greater police presence would help the area out tremendously in feeling safer for everyone who lives here," Butler said.
