CINCINNATI -- A firefighter is in good condition after breaking a vertebrae Saturday while on the scene of a house fire in Bond Hill.

Crews were working to extinguish a fire at a two-story house in the 5200 of Rhode Island Avenue just before 8 p.m. when the firefighter injured his back lifting hoses outside the structure.

The injured firefighter, whose name was not been released, was transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center to be treated for injuries. The hospital released him on Sunday.

The injured firefighter showed up at the firehouse in a back brace Sunday, according to fire personnel in District 3.

Neighbors said the house was vacant at the time of the fire. There were no other reported injuries.

Fire officials estimate repairs to the property will cost around $30,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
