CINCINNATI - Two firefighters are recovering after they sustained injuries while battling a blaze at an Avondale apartment early Monday morning.
Fire crews responded to an apartment fire in a two-family unit at 847 Blair Avenue at about 1:15 a.m. When crews responded, there was heavy fire on the first floor of the three-story building and an elderly woman was trapped in the second floor.
Crews initiated a search for woman, but conditions got worse and crews had to evacuate. Two firefighters were injured while attempting to escape. They were treated for minor burns and are doing well, according to officials.
The woman managed to escape and did not sustain any injuries.
The building is a total loss and the flames caused an estimated $80,000 in damage. Authorities are working to determine what caused the fire.
A total of three adults and one child are receiving help from the Red Cross after being displaced.
Officials have not released any additional details about the fire at this time.
