CINCINNATI -- There's a possible solution to the evidence backlog at the overcrowded Hamilton County Coroner's Office.
County and city officials are in talks to move the Hamilton County crime lab and morgue, and combine the city and county evidence rooms.
Officials say combining the evidence rooms would free up space at the Hamilton County Jail, creating enough room to add about 200 beds.
There are a handful of sites under consideration for the new coroner's office, including a room at the current Mercy Health-Mount Airy Hospital.
In order for the project to happen, county commissioners would need to approve the funding, which would be approximately $50 million.
