Free tax service for low income and elderly tax payers, students

CINCINNATI -- Xavier University accounting students and IRS-certified volunteers are offering free tax services to low-income taxpayers, elderly taxpayers and students at the Cintas Center.

The volunteers will provide free basic income tax preparation with electronic filing to the qualified individuals on seven different dates. They will also inform taxpayers about special tax credits, such as the Earned Income tax credit, Child tax credit and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled.

For taxpayers to qualify for the free service, they must make less than $52,000 per year.

Those interested must call (513) 745-2828 or email mailto:vita@Xavier.Edu to make an appointment for 5:30 p.m. and for 6:30 p.m. on the listed dates. 

Taxpayers must bring Social Security cards for themselves, spouses and dependents, proof of identification, form W-2, W-2G, 1099-Misc, interest/dividend statements, Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITIN) and birth dates.

Taxpayers cannot use Social Security numbers on last year's returns or on W-2's.  If applicable, taxpayers must also bring income and expense documentation as well as last year's return.  Last year's return is not mandatory.

The free service is first come first serve and if offered on the dates below:

  • Monday, February 24
  • Monday, March 10
  • Monday, March 17
  • Monday, March 31
  • Monday, April 7
  • Monday, April 14

The service will be held at the Cintas Center in Banquet Rooms 1 and 2. Parking is available at the Cintas Center.
