LEBANON, Ohio -- A Franklin man was sentenced to 11 years in prison Monday for robbing and beating a Dayton teen to death in December.
According to Journal-News , 30-year-old Adam Patrick pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery in a Warren County courtroom. He was immediately sentenced.
Franklin police and Warren County prosecutors said the victim, 16-year-old Dione Payne was sleeping on a couch in the home of another suspect in the case when he was beaten with a table leg, Journal-News reports.
The other two suspects, 36-year-old Michael Geldrich and 39-year-old Michael Watson were previously arrested for robbing, beating and sexually assaulting Payne.
Geldrich pleaded guilty in May to aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, kidnapping and tampering with evidence. Because he agreed to testify against Patrick and Watson, a charge of rape and a charge of kidnapping against Geldrich were dismissed.
Patrick, in addition to the robbery and beating, purchased drugs from Payne, and had planned to rob him by putting a pillow case over his head, taping his limbs together and stealing the drugs and money.
Prosecutors said Patrick agreed to loan his truck to Geldrich, with which he would take Payne to another spot and leave him behind. Patrick gave Geldrich his phone so they could be in touch during the robbery.
After striking and restraining Payne, Geldrich took drugs and money from him. He talked with Patrick via phone to try and find more drugs and money, and when none could be located, the men severely beat the teen.
Geldrich took Payne, who was unresponsive at the time, to Atrium Medical Center in Patrick's truck. They left the teen at the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Atrium Medical Center's surveillance video of the truck led police to the arrest of Patrick, Geldrich and Watson.
Watson was present during the assault, and faces aggravated murder and aggravated robbery charges. His trial is scheduled for July 28.
