FORT MITCHELL, Ky. - Residents in Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati may have a new place to buy a Mercedes-Benz this summer.
The Collection Auto Group located in north Ohio has proposed opening a Mercedes-Benz dealership at the location of the shuttered USA Hotel near Interstate 75.
The USA Hotel closed in December 2011 after receiving multiple citations for city code violations and being a common place for police to show up on calls related to drug deals and prostitution.
"I think this is a great move forward for the city, especially with the property as it is now," said Brian Houillion, Fort Mitchell city administrator. "It would bring a certain level of prestige to the city."
At their Jan. 7 meeting Fort Mitchell city council unanimously approved a motion to send a text amendment to their zoning to the Kenton County Planning Commission for review and recommendation.
That hearing, which will also allow for public comment, will be held at 2332 Royal Drive in Fort Mitchell, on Feb. 7 at 6:15 p.m.
Fort Mitchell hopes to hold a first reading at the February 11 meeting to approve the necessary zoning changes, followed by a second reading later in the month, said Houillion.
The dealership would be the second Mercedes-Benz dealership in Greater Cincinnati. Mercedes-Benz of Cincinnati currently sells the luxury cars at 8727 Montgomery Road.
Houillion said the developers of the site have an opening target date in August if zoning and construction run smoothly.
So far feedback from residents about the potential development in the city has been positive.
"Everyone that is from over in that area is in favor of that development," said Houillion. "I think they really support it."
