Arrests made in murder of Milan woman
Milan, Ind., woman found dead

MILAN, Ind. - Residents in Milan, Ind., are breathing a sigh of relief after three suspects are behind bars in connection with the death of Nancy Hershman, 68, of Milan.

On Saturday afternoon, Indiana State Police with the assistance of Colerain Township Police arrested Allison Moore, 22, and two 16-year-old male juveniles from Colerain Township at their homes.

Moore is being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center on a preliminary charge of murder while the two juveniles are being held in juvenile detention in connection with the death of Hershman.

Cortney Karn, 18, works at The Reservation restaurant in Milan. She said Hershman was her bus driver when she was just 4 years old.

"She was the nicest person, she really was," Karn said.

Investigators are calling this crime random. They said they believe the suspects were driving around when they decided to break into Hershman's home. Once inside, police said they believe they were confronted by Hershman and then she was shot and killed.

Charlie Moore has known Hershman for a long time. She worked for Moore when she was an emergency medical technician. Moore now owns Moore Funeral Homes. He said he never thought he would have to lay Hershman to rest at his business this soon. However, Moore said he is relieved to see police make progress in the investigation.

"It's done a number on the community and I think they needed some closure along with the family," Moore said.

Formal charges are expected to be filed Monday or Tuesday in Ripley County.

If Moore agrees to waive extradition, she could be brought back to Ripley County as early as this week.

The Indiana State Police is holding a press conference Monday. It will be held at the new Ripley County Courthouse Annex Building at 1:30 p.m.
