University of Cincinnati holds community service

CINCINNATI (AP) -- The University of Cincinnati is sending more than 100 faculty and staff members to participate in a day of service projects for communities surrounding the school's campuses.

The UC teams of volunteers will help community organizations paint over and remove graffiti and perform other general neighborhood cleanup on Friday. Some of the volunteers will assist the elderly, harvest produce and paint hallways and rooms, among other projects.

The services will benefit various nonprofit or community-based groups including the American Cancer Society, the American Red Cross, Freestore Foodbank, Friends of the Public Library and Volunteers of America.

The school says the projects are part of the one-day UC Serves project allowing faculty and staff to give back to the community.
