MILFORD, Ohio -- It's back to school Wednesday morning for the Milford Eagles, and some students are returning to brand new schools.

It took about 15 months to turn piles of dirt into the state-of-the-art Charles L. Seipelt Elementary on SR 131 and Boyd E. Smith Elementary on Jer-Les Drive.

Both schools hold about 500 students with kindergarten through third grades on the first floor and grades four through six on the second. Both buildings have a two-story media center, emphasizing the schools' focus on technology in the classrooms even at these younger ages.

Principal Sarah Greb at Seipelt Elementary said classrooms have interactive projectors, document cameras and access to carts of Chromebook laptops for the students.

"It brings it to life and it really starts to engage them. We love the fact that we are able to have carts (of Chromebooks) in grades K through six," Greb said. "We use the Google platform so they are constantly interacting with themselves, with their teachers as well as their classmates."

The Ohio Facilities Construction Commission funded the construction project without any new local taxes, according to the school's website.
