Cincinnati streetcar construction closes Vine Street in Over-the-Rhine

CINCINNATI -- The first rails for the Cincinnati streetcar track were placed Tuesday on Elm Street and continued construction will close down a major roadway in Over-the-Rhine this weekend.

Vine Street will be closed at 12th Street from 6 a.m. Saturday until 6 a.m. Monday while crews work underground.

There will be no access to and from the Gateway garage on 12th Street, but the garage’s entrance and exit on Central Parkway will remain open.

The parking lot on the northeast corner of the intersection will be open and accessible from westbound 12th Street.

All sidewalks and crosswalks will remain open.

The streetcar project is scheduled to have 17 stops and will travel from Over-the-Rhine to the Banks.

Officials say the loop will be operational by June 2015 and a full rollout of the project will be completed in 2016.

The estimated cost for travel on the streetcar will meet the Metro rate of $1.75.
