CINCINNATI - Cincinnati police arrested a man Tuesday afternoon for allegedly shooting a person downtown.
The suspect, Kalupe Dawson, was caught after a brief foot chase in front of the Main Library on Vine Street.
Dawson, 18, was arrested by Central Business Section officers and charged with felonious assault. He allegedly shot a man at Central Parkway and Vine Street at about 12:45 p.m.
Police recovered the gun that's believed to have been used in the incident.
The shooting victim was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he is undergoing surgery. His condition is unknown at this time.
The Kroger Co., whose headquarters is located near where the incident occurred, plans on meeting with police to discuss how to improve safety in the area.
"We are relieved that no Kroger associates or building tenants were involved in the shooting," said Keith Dailey, a Kroger spokesman. "Still, we are disturbed this happened so close to our building. Kroger will be meeting with the Cincinnati police because we want to make sure we are doing everything we can to prevent this kind of thing from happening again."
A man was stabbed Jan. 9 during a robbery at the Vine Street Kafe, inside the Kroger building at 1014 Vine St.
