Sister Mary Noel Gervais, 88, of Mappleville, R.I., died Jan. 20.
Sr. Gervais was born in Mappleville, R.I. She passed away at Holy Family Home in Melbourne and was a professed member of the Congregation of Divine Providence for 67 years. She entered Saint Anne Convent on Oct. 25, 1945, made her first profession of vows in 1947 and professed her final vows in August 1952. She served in the field of education for 35 years, seven of these as the music teacher at Our Lady of Providence Academy in Newport, Ky. She was a talented musician and delighted in her high school music classes as well as the private piano lessons she offered to young musicians from 1994-2000. For five years, she served in parish ministry with Native Americans in Kayenta, Ariz., and seven years as a staff member of Moye Spiritual Life Center, the retreat ministry of the Sisters of Divine Providence, according to the Dobbling Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Homes website, www.dmefuneral.com.
She is survived by her sister, Marjorie Schultz of Indiana; two brothers, Neil Gervais of Connecticut and Wilton Gervias of Minnesota; and her religious community, the Sisters of Divine Providence.
A service was held Jan. 23 at St. Anne Convent, Sacred Heart Chapel, Melbourne.
