NEWPORT, Ky. -- A four-alarm fire destroyed a Newport home in the 700 block of Maple Avenue Tuesday evening.
Officials say the fire broke out just before 7 p.m. When Newport firefighters arrived they called for assistance from Bellevue, Dayton and Covington fire departments in tackling the flames.
The family who lives at the residence managed to safely escape by exiting through the back door, officials say.
No one was injured in the incident.
At one point firefighters had to pull their crews out of the structure and fight the flames externally.
"It took a while it was up in the attic and we had a difficult time getting to where it extended to," said Newport Fire Chief Gary Auffart.
Officials estimate a total of $90,000 in damages.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Property records show the building constructed in 1900.
