BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio – Nearly 80 percent of nursing homes in Butler County were cited by the state during the past two years for not meeting standards of care, according to a story by Hannah Poturalski, a staff writer with the Dayton Daily News.
In the past two years, 18 of the 23 nursing homes in Butler County had at least one violation from the Ohio Department of Health, with some agencies receiving between 10 and 25 citations in one year. The violations range from failing to follow care plans and keeping unnecessary medications out of drug regimens, to unlocked medication carts and expired foods and medications, according to inspection reports.
None of Butler County’s violations were considered to put residents in immediate jeopardy of harm, according to ODH.
The state health department licenses and inspects nearly 1,000 nursing home facilities based on state and federal laws. Inspections are unannounced and completed once every nine to 15 months.
