MONROE, Ohio - An athletic trainer at Monroe High School is under investigation for possible inappropriate text messages to a student, police said Tuesday.

A student made the school aware of the texts.

The trainer is employed by Premier Health working under contract with Monroe Local Schools.

The trainer has been placed on “investigatory suspension,” according to Premier Health, which operates  health-care centers and hospitals in Middletown, Mason, Dayton and Troy, Ohio.

”We take these allegations and the safety of all individuals we care for seriously and intend to fully cooperate with law enforcement and Monroe Local Schools during this investigation,” vice-president Gary Blake said in  a statement.

No criminal history was found in the trainer's background check, Blake said.

No charges have been filed so WCPO is not releasing the trainer's name.

The Monroe superintendent acknowledged the investigation. Police declined to release more information  “due to the sensitive nature of the matter.”

A school resource officer at the high school  made the report at 12:45 p.m. Friday, according to the report.
