MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- A 29-year-old man was found shot to death inside a Middletown recording studio, according to Middletown police. Now, a close friend is charged in his death.

Jamelle C. Willis, also known as "3 Stax," was found dead of a gunshot wound around 2 a.m. Thursday, the Butler County Coroner said. Police said Willis was shot in the back and shoulder and found dead on the floor inside The Razors Edge recording studio.

Detectives questioned patrons and bystanders and conducted a K9 search. The investigation led to 21-year-old Willie James Boyd, who has addresses in Dayton and Franklin, police said.

Boyd, also known as "Yung God," was charged with murder. According to the Middletown Jail, Boyd turn himself in at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police said Boyd was "a close friend" of Willis' and "the shooting resulted from an argument inside the business."

Willis' wife, Monica Morris Johnson Willis, said the two were like family.

"I was a good friend with him, and Jamelle was too." she said. "We'd do anything for him, and this is wrong."

She said she never expected something like that to happen. Now her three children will have to grow up without a father.

"Just comes as a total shock, because I never thought of him to do something like this," she said.
