FAIRFIELD, Ohio - Katelyn Markham's friends have stepped up with ideas for memorials and remembrances for the Fairfield woman who disappeared in 2011. Her remains were found April 7.
Kaite Lewis, a friend from Fairfield High School and former next-door neighbor, is hoping to raise $5,000 to fund a memorial and help Markham's family with funeral expenses.
"My goal is to set up a place in Fairfield where friends and family can go to feel her spirit and remember the person she was. I am trying to contact the city to see if we can put a garden someplace with a trellis and plaque for her. I want a place where people can pay their respects," Lewis said.

Other ideas include:
• Posting ribbons and bows around Fairfield to show community support for Markham's family.
• An art sculpture and an exhibit of Markham's artwork. She was a student at the Art Institute of Ohio-Cincinnati when she disappeared.
Texas Equusearch, which organized searches for Markham, plans to place a marker at the site where her remains were found in Cedar Grove, Ind.
Markham's family is also planning a memorial event, with details to come.
