STONELICK TWP., Ohio - A 6-year-old boy died Wednesday afternoon after he was struck and pinned under a golf cart at a home in Clermont County.
The fatal accident occurred around 4 p.m. Wednesday at a home located at 5068 State Route 222 in Stonelick Township.
Clermont County Sheriff AJ Rodenberg said the victim was running alongside and "racing" the golf cart, which was driven by a 7-year-old neighbor, when he was struck by the vehicle and it rolled on top of him.
The victim was trapped under the golf cart until an adult was able to lift it off him.
The 6-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene after "life-saving efforts" by responding deputies and emergency personnel were unsuccessful, according to Sheriff Rodenberg.
Investigators say the victim's father and grandmother, as well as the grandfather of the boy driving the golf cart were home at the time of the accident but didn't witness it.
The investigation is ongoing.
