CINCINNATI - A woman escaped a horrifying ordeal on Thursday after she was bound and locked inside a room, according to Springfield Township police.
Yvonne Harris, who lives in the 1200 block of Compton Road, said her son was cutting grass around noon and ran in and said, "Mom, I just told a lady to sit down and she's naked."
"I ran outside to see what was wrong, saw this lady. She had a garbage bag over her head. She had her hands tied behind her back. She had half a rope on one leg. She said 'help me, he's going to kill me, I just broke out of the garage,'" said Harris.
The 40-year-old victim said she was sexually assaulted in the nearby house and was able to escape after the man, identified as 34-year-old Cowan Mitchell, II, left the home to pick up his three children from school.
Harris brought the victim into her home and called 911. The victim said she was kept in a little room inside Mitchell's house and given pills to remain quiet.
According to the victim, Mitchell picked her up in Cincinnati and drove her to his residence Wednesday morning. At some point, Mitchell threw a bag over the victim's head, shoved her and told her she "got into the wrong car."
The victim did not fight back because Mitchell said he would let her go in a couple of days.
As police were investigating, Mitchell drove by and was taken into custody a short time later at Daly Road and Hempstead Drive. Police say Mitchell's children were inside his car when he was arrested. Neighbors say the three children live in the home where the alleged incident took place.
Cadaver dogs were brought to the scene late Thursday afternoon after officers noticed something suspicious behind the home.
Mitchell is charged with attempted aggravated murder, rape, felonious assault and kidnapping. His bond was set at $250,000 for each charge during his arraignment Friday morning.
Police have not released any other information at this time.
