UNION, Ky. -- A 75-year-old man's body was found Tuesday night near Big Bone Lick State Park after an apparent car crash, according to police.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to the 12000 block of Big Oak Road in Union to check on the man’s well being.
Investigators said a friend of Walter Boyd called authorities finding his home open with no one around. Deputies said the friend checked on Boyd since no one had heard from him since 10 a.m.
Boyd was found dead in his pickup truck that was overturned in a creek on the property. His body was found at about 10 p.m.
The sheriff’s office said those who knew Boyd speculated that he had gone down to get his mail but his pickup must have slid off a bridge that crosses the creek because of the weather.
A cause of death has not been determined but foul play is not suspected.
Officials characterized the incident as a “very unfortunate accident.”
