BOONE COUNTY, Ky. -- A vehicle hit and killed a woman early Saturday morning along Interstate 71.

The pedestrian's death appears to be a suicide, according to Maj. Tom Scheben, spokesman for the Boone County Sheriff's Office.

He said she appears to have driven to the area near mile marker 74 and either walked out or lay down in front of a vehicle. The woman was 46 years old and from Florence, Kentucky.

Whoever hit her didn't stop or call for help, Scheben said. Another driver saw her body and called authorities at about 4:15 a.m.

The crash closed the southbound lanes past Interstate 75 for nearly two hours.

The sheriff's Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating. Deputies asked for help finding the vehicle and driver that hit the woman. Anyone with information is asked to call the Boone County Sheriff’s Office at 859-334-2175.
