Missing Boone County woman found at Las Vegas casino

FLORENCE, Ky. -- The mother of a 20-year-old Northern Kentucky woman who was reported missing after she left home in the middle of the night said her daughter contacted her Friday evening.

A report said Jena Chisholm called her mother, Tina Chisholm, from The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - a hotel and casino along the city's heavily-toured strip.

Her mother had traveled to Las Vegas to pick up Jena's dog, Chamber, that was previously found there, tied to a fence that lined a hotel. Jena Chisholm was nowhere in sight when Chamber was found. The found dog, and missing Jena, worried the young woman's family because they said she loved Chamber and took him everywhere.

Her father said that his daughter appeared to be homeless, and was temporarily detained by security officers who questioned her and a man at about 10 p.m. Thursday at the Quad casino.

Tim Chisholm says his daughter showed her Kentucky driver's license before she and the unidentified man were allowed to go.

Police say no foul play is suspected.

Friday marked 15 days since Jena's Boone County family had heard from her.

"I just want her to come home,” Jena’s sister, 16-year-old Josie Chisholm, said Wednesday. “I miss her so much."

All Josie wanted this New Year was to find her sister.

"She told me she was going to Vegas but she told me she was going after Christmas," Josie said.

But Jena disappeared before that on the night of Dec. 19.

She had been living with her dad Tim in Union. They spent that evening together.

When they got home, Tim said everything seemed fine.

"The next morning there was a note on the table that said she went to stay with a friend of hers…we had a great breakfast and day and that she’d be back for a doctor's appointment on the 26th,” Tim said.

When Jena didn’t show up for her appointment, her family became concerned.

“We had put the find a phone application on… and she's already outside St. Louis, Missouri at that time," Tim said.

They would soon find Jena’s location using an iPhone tracking app. She went to Albuquerque, N.M., Las Vegas, Los Angeles, then back to Las Vegas.

"We tried to call, we tried to text, she didn't answer a thing,” Jena’s mom said.

Jena’s phone was shut off on the 26th and remained without power until Friday evening.

Jena's parents say she was in the process of being evaluated for mental health issues after she dropped out of school at NKU, quit her job at Greyhound Tavern in Fort Mitchell and stopped talking to friends.

Despite more than two weeks since communicating with Jena, her family held out hope.

"I just want to tell her that I love her, I want her to come home and I've been praying for her," her brother Jake Chisholm said before Jena was found. “We love her. We miss her terribly. It's just really hard."
