HEBRON, Ky. -- Dozens of Tri-State veterans are preparing for the trip of a lifetime as the fifth and final Honor Flight of 2016 prepares for takeoff Tuesday morning from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

Seventy-two veterans will get the star treatment with an all-expenses-paid daytrip to Washington to visit their respective war memorials Tuesday. They include 11 World War II veterans, 26 Korean War veterans, 14 Vietnam veterans and 19 veterans from other foreign wars.

These brave veterans represent four of the five branches of the armed services: the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines.

More than 350 local veterans were able to take one of the five Honor Flights to our nation's capital in 2016. The day includes free airfare, bus tour, meals, a T-shirt and a volunteer guardian for any veteran age 65 and older. World War II veterans receive top priority.

Guardians can be family members age 18 to 64, but spouses are not allowed. Guardians are interested patriotic citizens who would like to escort these veterans to see their memorials at their own expense. The guardian fee for 2016 is $450.
