N.Ky. native wins $200K in global Halo championship

FLORENCE, Ky. -- A Northern Kentucky native won $200,000 playing Halo this past weekend.

Aaron "lx Ace xl" Elam, 20, won the Halo 4 Global Championship Sunday, and the $200,000 reward that came with it.

Elam lists his hometown as Florence, Ky. on his Major League Gaming profile, and is a current University of Kentucky student studying chemical engineering, according to his Twitter account.

Elam tweeted over the weekend about his victory: "I honestly can't believe I just won 200k."

Elam expressed gratitude on Twitter following the win: "I want to thank all of the people that believed I could win, you know who you are"

"lx Ace xl", Elam's gamertag, came out on top among thousands of entrants in this year's championship. He is a former Major League Gaming champion, according to the Halo 4 Global Championships blog .
