VERONA, Ky. -- A 22-year-old motorcyclist is dead after a crash on U.S. 42 in Verona.
The crash happened at about 7:15 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 42 and South Fork Road, the Boone County Sheriff’s Department
The motorcyclist, who deputies said was from Erlanger, was riding his motorcycle west on U.S. 42 approaching West Fork Road when he came upon 56-year-old Terry Gibson, of Verona.
Investigators said Gibson was stopped on South Fork Road and was waiting to turn left onto the eastbound lanes of U.S. 42.
Deputies said Gibson started to pull into the intersection but stopped when he saw the motorcycle.
The motorcycle rider tried to break hard to avoid Gibson but was unable to avoid Gibson’s car.
Investigators said the rider was wearing a helmet but did not survive the crash. Gibson was not injured in the crash.
The roadway was closed until about 10 a.m. while crews investigated the crash. The victim's name is being withheld pending family notification.
