Local blood donors are needed

CINCINNATI - Hoxworth Blood Center cannot assist with the national need for blood because they say the local supply is too low.  The shortage in the Tri-State area needs to be met first, according to Hoxworth spokesperson, Alicia Lipton.

"In addition to meeting our patient needs in our service area, we anticipate requests for blood products to support blood centers along the East Coast in the wake of Hurricane Sandy," said Lipton in a news release on Wednesday.

Walk-in donors are welcome because of the shortage. There are eight local donor centers: Anderson, Blue Ash, Central at UC, Downtown, Ft. Mitchell, Mason, Tri-County and Western Hills.

Appointments can be made here: (513) 451-0910 or visiting www.hoxworth.org .
