SEAMAN, Ohio – Some locals letting off steam in this village conducted themselves poorly, causing a runaway train car and derailment Sunday night.

“Local hoodlums” found some train cars stored on the tracks just west of Main Street and removed a pin keeping one of the cars in place, according to Patrol Sgt. Matt Windle.

Without the pin, the car began rolling east, crossing Main Street and heading out of town, Windle said. The runaway car barely missed a vehicle during it’s 1.5-mile journey.

The train car finally stopped a few hundred yards east of Silcott Road when its rear axle derailed, Windle said.

The car remained mostly upright and there were no injuries.

For now, police are still tracking those responsible.
