1 killed in crash on State Route 131 in Jackson Township

JACKSON TWP., Ohio -- One person was killed early Thursday morning when he drove his truck into the back of a disabled dump truck on State Route 131 in Jackson Township.

The accident involved three vehicles and occurred just before 7 a.m. near the intersection of S.R. 131 and Hunt Road when Carl R. Goldbach, 60, drove his westbound Ford Ranger into the rear of the dump truck. The dump truck was pushed forward into a Ford F-350 truck that was facing it, according to investigators.

Goldbach, a Williamsburg resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing his seat belt, according to investigators from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The driver of the F-350, Virginia E. Stacey, 60, and her passenger -- Randy Howard, 49 --  were not hurt in the crash. Both Stacey and Howard are from Fayetteville.

Thomas P. Stacey, 57, of Fayetteville, was the driver of the dump truck. He was outside his vehicle at the time of the crash and was not hurt.

OSP officials say the dump truck was stopped in the lane of travel at the time of the accident. Virginia Stacey and Howard were attempting to assist Thomas P. Stacey, which is why the Ford F-350 was facing the dump truck, investigators say.

Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be factors in the crash, according to the OSP.

Troopers rom the Batavia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating the accident.
