Teen dies after U.C. Police tasing

MADISONVILLE - The community gathered Saturday morning for a teen's funeral after he was Tased by University of Cincinnati campus police and died August 6th.

Family and friends mourned the loss of 18-year-old Everette Howard at New Mission Baptist Church at 4809 Ravenna Street in Madisonville. Howard died of cardiac arrest at University Hospital after being Tased by UC campus police.

Police said they responded to a fight at Turner Hall, where they said Howard refused two commands to stop coming toward them.

Family said Howard had a slight heart murmur, however, that never stopped him from playing sports.

His cousin Stephanie Brown said he was "one of the good ones."

"He was a nice respectful young man. He was on his way to college a week from today, with a full scholarship, graduated top 10 of his class. He was one of the good ones and I'm not just saying that because he was family, but he was caught up in an unfortunate accident—like I said the good ones are taken too soon and I feel that he was gone too soon."

The officer who Tased Howard is on administrative leave pending the investigation. The use of Tasers has been suspended at this time as well.
