Tom Ryan is not your typical high school student.
Ryan ranks fourth in his senior class at Covington Catholic High School and maintains a weighted 4.17 grade-point-average. He challenges himself both in and out of the classroom and scores high grades while taking several advanced placement courses.
Ryan is also a member of the National Honor Society and the National English Honor Society.
For him, giving back plays a very large and important role in his life.
"I like to see other people succeed. I've had a lot of opportunities and things that have been given to me in my life, and I'd like to be able to give back to other people for them to be able to have the same opportunities that I've had," said Ryan.
"He's one of those who just makes you proud... He's invested lots and lots of time in very serious projects over the course of a long period of time and that just shows students what can be accomplished," said Jason Mott, a guidance counselor at Covington Catholic High School.
Mott says Tom is a leader in the halls of Covington Catholic. He says Ryan’s impact will be felt for years to come through the lives he has touched while in school.
“Tom has a very high capacity for learning and a truly impressive mind; his record gives every indication of that. However, it is his overwhelmingly inquisitive nature and drive to learn that is the most impressive thing about him. Tom is one of those adolescents that come along very rarely, and in my six years as a counselor I have worked with very few students on his level,” said Mott.
After graduation, Ryan plans on studying chemical engineering in college.
