CINCINNATI - Our latest student of the week likes to challenge himself to see just how much he can do in a day.
Srikar Mylavarapu is a senior at St. Xavier High School. He's a big brother and volunteers at a local hospital. That's besides taking advanced placement classes and several extra-curricular activities.
"All of my teachers are very flexible, very understanding," Mylavarapu said. "Whenever I need their help, they're always there. They're probably the best inspiration and motivation I have to go on to do whatever I do."
His teachers say he's someone who loves learning and that he's a natural leader and role model to other students.
Bill Schlate, a religion teacher and also the person who nominated Srikar says Mylavarapu is a high achiever and a fun kid.
"What they see is a student who achieves very high academically, but he also has a lot of fun. He comes in and he's joking with them," Schlate said. "He kids them about this, that and the other thing and they can see that you can be a tremendously happy person and still be a very high achiever."
Mylavarapu spends a lot of time being a mentor to freshmen students. He has fun helping others succeed.
"On one hand it just feels right to do. I love the feeling when you're either tutoring a kid or even just making fun of them, for the sake of making fun of them, and you see that smile on their face, and that really brightens up your day," Mylavarapu said.
His teachers will be sad to see him leave this summer, but they know he'll make a big impact in whatever career path he chooses.
"I am very excited because I know he deserves it! He's done so much," Schlate said. "So often students don't get the opportunity to be acknowledged for their good work."
Congratulations Srikar Mylavarapu, you're our student of the week.
