Student of the Week: Dakota Richter

Dakota Richter is a senior at Dixie Heights High School. She has a weighted G.P.A. of 3.84 and scored a 33 on her A.C.T.  Richter is also a member of the swimming and diving teams.

Richter is not only a member of the Young Marines program; she was selected as the National Young Marine of the Year. It’s through this organization that she helps out not only her local community, but those across the nation.

"We do a lot of community service, so things like teaching drug demand reduction at the Diocesan Catholic Children's Home of Northern Kentucky, or we'll work with veterans quite frequently through groups like the Marine Corp. Riders and the Blue Star Mothers. So we try and have a very strong presence in our community just to give back as much as we possibly can," Richter said.

Dakota has only been at Dixie for two years, but her teachers will tell you, Dakota is a leader and a role model.

“She works hard. She pushes herself. She doesn’t settle, she wants to continue to move forward,” Rob Maddox, a teacher at Dixie Heights, said.

She was also chosen as a student member of Kenton County’s Superintendent Advisory Council. Dakota is also a member of the National Honor Society.

“She (Dakota) made an impression the first time she came in, just the way she carries herself, presents herself. She’s knowledgeable and passionate about what she wants to do and what her goals are,” said Maddox.

After graduation, Dakota plans on attending the Coast Guard Academy in Connecticut, where she plans on studying either government or management.
