Ana Barros maintains a weighted 4.2 grade-point-average at Sycamore High School and is this week’s Student of the Week.
Barros is the editor-in-chief for the school newspaper and has won many awards for her journalism work.
Her responsibilities include directing a staff of 76 students. She was instrumental in the redesign of the paper to a news magazine format.
Barros has also held the positions of managing editor and business manager. In 2012, she was published in the Enquirer opinion page with her piece on the "Granny Robber".
"Her peers would probably say that she is a leader and that she is a role model for them... And with hard work and perseverance you can do whatever you want to do," said Karen Bare, Assistant Principal at Sycamore High School.
Barros is involved in the National Honor Society, Mock Trial and the Model U.N., but her true passion is to help others.
Barros is a tutor through Operation Give Back. In addition, she is a member of Operation Smile, Relay for Life and Go Cincinnati.
"Seeing their eyes light up when they get that flash card right or they finish a game, it's definitely very fulfilling and i just love that. That's what keeps me going," said Barros.
