Ally Knizner is an eighth grader at St. James Elementary.
She has served on the school newspaper and speech team. Ally also plays volleyball and is a Girl Scout. She even has a part in the upcoming production of the “Little Mermaid.”
Ally is on the eighth grade Leadership council at St. James.
“She was nominated by teachers to serve in this leadership role due to her positive attitude, school spirit, organizational skills and her ability to serve and lead others,” St. James school nurse Connie Lanter said.
Ally faces a daily challenge though, she’s a type I diabetic, but that’s not slowing her down at all.
“Ally has helped newly diagnosed students to make it through the tough first year of adjustment. She has taken younger diabetics under her wing and even invited a new diabetic first grader to her home to play with her brothers because her family knew how to take care of any issues that may arise,” Lanter said.
Ally also enjoys helping those less fortunate than herself. She spends time volunteering, including time at the Ronald McDonald House.
"It means a lot because I know that I'm making a difference in their lives even though it's only a little bit. I know you have to start small," Knizner said.
“Over the last eight years I have had the privilege to be Ally Knizner’s nurse at St. James Elementary School. I have watched her grow from a smiling little first grader to the smiling young lady she has become,” Lanter said.
