Courtney Wittekind of Mason among 32 US Rhodes Scholars

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Two Ohio natives have been named Rhodes Scholars and will enter England's prestigious Oxford University next October.

Adam Mastroianni of Monroeville in northern Ohio and Courtney Wittekind of Mason in southwestern Ohio are among 32 college students nationwide to win the scholarships, announced Sunday.

Both students said in emails that they would speak to The Associated Press about their achievements and plans later Sunday.

Rhodes scholarships provide all expenses for two or three years of study at Oxford. The value of the scholarships averages about $50,000 a year.

Mastroianni is a senior at Princeton University in New Jersey, studying psychology with a focus on social psychology. Wittekind is listed as studying arts and humanities at Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania.

They were selected from 857 applicants in the nation.
